Captain America: Brave New World Review

Captain America: Brave New World – A Mixed Bag of Vibranium and Missed Opportunities

by | Feb 28, 2025 | Favorites, Movies

Alright, folks, let’s talk about Captain America: Brave New World. I walked in ready for some shield-throwing, villain-smashing, high-flying action… and I mostly got that. But was it the next great MCU masterpiece? Eh. Let’s break it down.

The Good – Because I’m Not a Total Cynic

First off—Isaiah. Every single time this man was on screen, the movie leveled up. He brought that raw, emotional weight that made his every moment electric. What an actor! Take a bow!

Then there’s our new Falcon—big win. He had that perfect balance of charisma, depth, and humor, making him an easy character to root for. Plus, let’s give a round of applause for the return of  a villain. Love a deep-cut throwback. More of this, please, Marvel.

The Bad – Because I Have Questions

Now, let’s address the vibranium elephant in the room—where was Bucky?! I walked into this expecting a Sam-and-Bucky buddy-cop dynamic, only to get… a glorified cameo? I know, I know, Thunderbolts is on the way, but still, a little more Winter Soldier wouldn’t have hurt.

Also, and I say this with love, but… does it bother anyone else that Cap doesn’t have powers? Listen, I like Sam as Captain America—I really do. He’s got heart, he’s got leadership, he’s got the best pep talks in the business. But when I watch a superhero movie, I want to see people do the impossible. And Sam’s tech, while cool, feels like something Tony Stark could’ve whipped up in a weekend. It just takes away a bit of the spectacle.

The Verdict – Should You Watch It?

Look, despite its pacing issues and some questionable character choices, I can tell this movie is laying the groundwork for bigger things. The multiverse, the X-Men connections—it’s all coming. And while Brave New World didn’t totally blow me away, it did get me curious about what’s next.

So, did it stick the landing? Not entirely. But did it make me excited for the future of the MCU? Kind of. And in Marvel’s world, sometimes kinda is enough.

Bring your kids? Although I believe some of your older kids would be fine watching this film (8+), my own 12-year-old almost fell asleep… I would save the theater fare and watch it together at home.
